My Platform
My Vision for Amherst College
As your Senate representative, I'm committed to implementing practical initiatives that directly improve student life on campus. My platform focuses on creating tangible solutions to everyday challenges we face as students, enhancing our academic environment, and building a more connected campus community.
Based on conversations with students across campus, I've identified several key areas where we can make meaningful improvements:
Improved Study Spaces
Our campus needs better-equipped and more comfortable study spaces to support academic success. I will advocate for practical upgrades that make a difference in your daily study experience.
My Action Plan:
- Install more whiteboards in common areas and study lounges
- Upgrade monitors and technology in collaborative work spaces
- Introduce sleeping pods in key locations for healthy study breaks
- Replace broken chairs in residential study areas
- Extend library hours during peak study periods
Centralized Lost and Found System
Lost items are a major headache, with different buildings having separate lost and found locations. I'll work to create a unified digital system that makes finding lost items simple and efficient.
My Action Plan:
- Create a web/mobile application where lost items can be reported and claimed
- Implement a notification system for when items matching your description are found
- Train staff across campus on the new unified system
- Partner with IT department to develop and maintain the platform
Dining Hall Crowdedness Tracker
Tired of arriving at the dining hall during peak hours and waiting in long lines? I'll implement a real-time occupancy tracker so you can plan your meals efficiently.
My Action Plan:
- Work with dining services to install occupancy sensors or leveraging existing card swipe data
- Develop a simple web/mobile interface showing real-time crowd levels
- Include features like peak time predictions based on historical data
- Integrate the tracker into the existing Amherst app or website
- Ensure privacy by only showing aggregate numbers, not personal data
Digitalization of Tread Shed & Bike Share
Tread Shed makes claiming abandoned bicycles easier for students and staff (already underway). For Bike Share, I’ll explore digital solutions to track availability and enable reservations.
My Action Plan:
- Enhance the Tread Shed portal: list abandoned bikes, simplify claim requests, and send automated notifications
- Connect with Physical Plant and staff systems for real‑time status updates
- Build a responsive web/mobile interface for live availability maps and reservation requests
- Prototype push‑notifications for new bike drop‑offs and reservation reminders
- Integrate both tools into the Amherst app for seamless access while protecting user privacy
Anonymous Feedback Form for AAS
Student government should be accessible to all. I'll create a permanent anonymous feedback channel to ensure everyone's voice can be heard without fear or hesitation.
My Action Plan:
- Establish a secure, anonymous feedback portal for the Amherst Association of Students
- Create a consistent process for reviewing and responding to feedback
- Publish regular reports on themes from feedback and actions taken
- Ensure the system is accessible on multiple platforms
- Promote the feedback channel to increase student engagement
Senate Representative Website
Transparency is essential for effective representation. I'll maintain a dedicated website to keep you informed about Senate activities, my initiatives, and progress updates.
My Action Plan:
- Create and maintain a personal Senate representation website
- Post regular updates on ongoing projects and initiatives
- Share meeting summaries and important policy changes
- Create an accessible calendar of Senate events and opportunities
- Provide multiple contact channels for constituent outreach
Progress Tracking
I believe in accountability and transparency. Once elected, this section will track the progress of each initiative, so you can see exactly what's being accomplished with your vote.
Any questions or concerns?
Your vote is a powerful tool for creating the campus experience you want to see. Together, we can implement these practical improvements that benefit all Amherst students.
